Ken W. Mikesell,
has over 25 years of operations and business management
experience and has been the leader of successful business and
operational turnaround efforts in a variety of industries. His
areas of expertise include P&L management, operational turnaround
management in manufacturing and distribution, quality systems,
planning systems, product design, Activity Based Costing, strategic
planning, and sales and marketing development.
As a business
leader he has established sales and marketing strategies as well
as product planning programs in both manufacturing and distribution
businesses. These programs included the implementation of price
increases as well as managing cost reduction and redesign efforts
to maintain targeted gross margins. This also included the introduction
of new products and the phase out and elimination or divestiture
of products. A major strength is the ability to develop product
designs and manufacturing systems that maximize product profitability
and quality while simultaneously supporting high customer service
levels with short lead-times and minimum inventories.
In specific
areas of operational turnarounds, he began implementation of Toyota
Production Systems (JIT), TQM, and Design-for-Manufacturing concepts
in the mid 1980's. He completed his first full implementation
of these concepts in a business several years later, successfully
orchestrating a turnaround in the business and making it a showpiece
for operational and financial performance. He has continued to
execute newer variations of these operational concepts - such
as Lean Manufacturing and Demand Flow - and has been successfully
implementing these concepts in many multi-plant environments since
then.
In technical
areas of expertise, he has extensive hands-on experience in a
variety of manufacturing technologies including welding, metals
processing and fabrication, foundry operations, machining and
polishing processes, wood products manufacturing, robotics and
automation, composites and plastics manufacturing, and numerous
assembly processes.
His personal
skills include the ability to work effectively with all levels
of the organization, enabling him to quickly identify strategic
and operational problems and then implement practical solutions.
He has a proven background in growing sales and improving the
bottom line through process reengineering and innovative problem
solving. A self-directed and action-oriented individual with solid
interpersonal skills he creates an environment of teamwork, accountability,
and closure in all assignments. He is a results-driven strategist
and change agent adept at creating vision and operational plans,
thinking outside the box, and motivating people to take action.
Using strong business acumen with excellent communication, cost
management, entrepreneurial, organizational and interpersonal
skills he consistently delivers measurable, bottom-line results.
His professional
operations experience includes positions in Industrial Engineering,
Product Design Engineering, and Value Engineering as well as management
experience as a Manufacturing Engineering Manager and Production
Plant Manager. In addition, he has held VP of Operations and General
Manager positions in a variety of manufacturing and distribution
businesses and industries. Over the last three years he has been
a senior business consultant servicing clients all over the United
States. His education includes a BSMCET (Mechanical Engineering
Technology) and MSIME (Industrial and Management Engineering)
from Montana State University and an MBA from the University of
St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota.
